Project Details

Stevens completed the site layout and design for the 40-acre elementary school site located in Hudson, Wisconsin. Striving for LEED Certification, the design required innovative storm water management practices including infiltration basins to reduce storm water runoff and volume to less than the pre-developed conditions, limiting the removal of vegetation and protecting existing trees, and incorporating environmentally friendly design alternatives such as curbless parking areas. The storm water detention and infiltration facilities were also designed to be safe for children with flatter, more natural slopes, and with the ability to drain completely in a short time to avoid open water issues. Because this project is in close proximity to the St. Croix River, which is the immediate receiving water of runoff from the site, great care was taken in preparing the storm water management and erosion control plan.
